We are honored to have Matt Patrick from Houston’s KPRC / The 950 endorsement of PharmacyCard.org. As you heard on Matt’s radio show, we provide a free health benefit with our Prescription Discount Card that is available to individuals, but also for employers in bulk.
The prescription discount card works at over 63,000 participating pharmacies throughout the US and provided an average discount of 60.4% during 2011. There are no restrictions, no expiration, and no activation needed to use your card. Just print and take to your pharmacy with your prescription and receive your discount!
You can use this card if you have insurance or are uninsured. For those that have insurance, this works as a supplement program that provides discounts on drugs not covered by your insurance plan. We also have a large number of drugs that are under $10, so it could be below your current copay as well.
Why is it free?
We get this question all the time, and here’s the short answer… Our program generates revenue when the card is used at the pharmacy to purchase a prescription. We receive a small processing fee from the pharmacies that participate in our program. They do this to increase their total transactions while providing a lower cost alternative to paying retail prices. Pharmacies understand that if a patient can’t afford the medication or the prices are too high, then their prescriptions can go unfilled. This is a loss of revenue for them that is greater than providing a discount and doesn’t help a patient get better. Helping consumers find ways to afford their medication is joint effort of PharmacyCard.org, Pharmacies, and your Doctor. You can find more information on our How It Works page.
How do I use it?
You can use your free drug card just as you would use an insurance card. Hand the card to the pharmacist when you drop off your prescription and see what kind of discount you get. Brand name drugs will have a typical 10-20% discount with greater savings coming on generics where you can save up to 75%. We’ve seen some discounts higher than that, but they are not the norm. Use our Drug Price/Pharmacy Finder tool to see what your price would be on your prescriptions.
